The import feature lets you turn existing files into structured data inside Poelis. Instead of manually recreating items and properties, you can upload a CSV or PDF and let Poelis extract the relevant information for you. Imports always happen inside the draft version of a product, so nothing is published or locked until you explicitly decide to do so.

How import works

When you upload a file, Poelis analyzes its content and tries to identify:
  • items and their structure
  • properties and values
  • possible categories and units
This analysis is assisted by AI and may take a few minutes. While the analysis is running, keep the tab open. Once the analysis is complete, Poelis does not immediately modify your product. Instead, it opens a review step where you can inspect and adjust everything before saving.

Reviewing imported data

The review step is where you decide what actually gets added to your product. For each imported item and property, you can:
  • confirm or edit the name
  • adjust the value or type
  • assign a category
  • select a unit
  • remove anything you don’t want to import
Poelis highlights missing or ambiguous information, such as properties without a category or unit. These issues must be resolved before the import can be completed. AI suggestions are shown where available, but they are never applied automatically. You remain in control of the final structure and meaning of the data.

Saving the import

Once all required fields are filled and any issues are resolved, you can save the import. At this point:
  • the items and properties are added to the product’s draft
  • nothing is versioned or baselined yet
  • all imported data behaves exactly like manually created data
You can continue editing, include the imported changes in a change request, and publish them in a version when ready.

When import is useful

Import is meant to help you get started faster or reuse existing information. It works well when you need to:
  • migrate data from spreadsheets
  • extract parameters from datasheets or specifications
  • bootstrap a product structure without starting from scratch
It is not a one-way operation. Imported data can always be refined, restructured, or removed after the import.
