# Workspaces - User manual

A **Poelis workspace** is the highest-level organizational boundary in the platform. It represents a lasting environment, such as a company, division, or program, where multiple projects and systems can coexist over time.

## What a workspace contains

A workspace brings together related **products, items, users, and configuration settings**. It defines how people collaborate, how access is managed, and how engineering data is organized.

Products in the same workspace share a user base and governance model. Each product remains independently versioned and controlled.

## Creating and accessing workspaces

**Only users with administrator privileges can create workspaces.** This keeps ownership and access rules consistent across the organization.

You can belong to multiple workspaces and have **different roles in each**, depending on your responsibilities. To switch workspaces, use the workspace selector in the top-left corner of the application.

## Data separation

Workspaces are **strictly isolated**:

* Data, permissions, roles, and configuration settings do not cross workspace boundaries.
* Assets cannot be shared between workspaces.

This separation keeps ownership and access independent, so teams can run multiple initiatives in parallel without interfering with one another.
