# Command Bar - User manual

The Command Bar is the fastest way to navigate, search, and interact with Poelis.
It is designed to replace slow clicking, deep navigation, and manual scanning with a **single, consistent entry point**. With it, Poelis becomes dramatically faster.
The Command Bar is a universal interface that lets you:

* Navigate anywhere in Poelis

* Search across products, items, properties, and documents

* Trigger actions (create, add, navigate)

* Ask structured questions using AI

You can think of it as:

* a **global search**

* a **keyboard-first navigation tool**

* a **command launcher**

* and an **AI query interface**

All in one.
You can open the Command Bar at any time:

* Press `⌘-K` (MacOS) or `Ctrl-K` (Windows and Linux)

* Or click the command bar icon in the sidebar

It opens as an overlay and never changes your current context until you select something.

## Navigation with Search

If you start typing **without a prefix**, the Command Bar behaves like a global search. You can search for:

* Property names

* Item names

* Product names

* Document names

* Content inside documents (PDFs)

Search results always show:

* The **entity name**

* Its **location in the hierarchy**

* (For properties) the **current value and unit**

* (For attachments) a preview of the content with your query

Selecting a result navigates you directly to it.

## Commands (`/`)

Typing `/` switches the Command Bar into **command mode**. This is where you explicitly tell Poelis *what you want to do*.

### Smart Search (`/ai`)

The most powerful current command is Smart search. To use it, type `/` and select ai or just type `/ai`:

Smart Search interprets your request → searches structured data (items + properties) → applies conditions (e.g. numeric comparisons, units) → returns concrete results you can navigate to:

* Matching **properties**

* Their **values and units**

* The **items they belong to**

* Direct navigation links

### How to Write Good AI Queries

AI search works best when you:

* Use **clear nouns** (valves, tanks, batteries)

* Use **explicit conditions** (above, below, equal to)

* Include **units** when relevant (bar, kg, °C)

Good examples:

/ai list all valves with pressure above 10 bar
/ai show items with mass greater than 50 kg
/ai find batteries with temperature below -20 °C

```

You don’t need perfect phrasing. The system is designed to be forgiving, but being explicit improves accuracy.
