# Notebooks and scripts - Python SDK

> Explore with dot notation, then pin readable IDs in scripts

## Notebooks

Use dot notation to explore, plot, and iterate:

* Interactive analysis, one property at a time
* Autocomplete at each level of the path

## Scripts and pipelines

Prefer **explicit readable IDs** copied from the UI:

* The script stays predictable when display names change
* The IDs are the same ones you already checked in a notebook

A reliable loop:

1. Explore in a notebook
2. Copy the readable IDs you want
3. Paste those IDs into a script

## Autocomplete

    Static analysis is more conservative. List names with `list_*().names` and pick from there

  If autocomplete omits a name you expect, call the `list_*().names` method for that level and choose from the result. See [Browse your data](/python-sdk/navigation).
